Thai Stunt Legend and Tony Jaa's Mentor Panna Rittikrai passes

Posted by THE SNAKE on July 22, 2014 at 4:40 PM Comments comments (0)

It was with shock that the news came about Thai action legend ,stuntman,Action Choreographer and Director Panna Rittikirai passing at the weekend at the age of just 53..

Star of many films in Thailand in the 80's and 90's Panna went on to define the way films are made in Thailand.  He directed his first film 1984 ,''Gerd Ma Lui'' which is actually the original to the film ''Born to Fight ' from 2004 ,which Panna also directed.

Of course Most of us in the West will know him for the  showstopping film Ong Bak (2003) where he was the action director , directing his student and friend Tony Jaa. He went on to action direct Tom Yum Goong,Mecury Man and Born to Fight.

After that he gave us Jeeja Yanin Vismitananda in Chocolate , another showstopping film with full on action..

In 2006 he starred alongside Thai action hero Dan Chupong in Dynamite Warrior ,giving a full on performance as the bad guy who fights Dan Chupong at the end of the movie.

Well be doing a small feature page on the late Master Rittikrai ,where where look at some of the films he set the world alight with.. It's quite hard in the West to source the earlier films .But where do the best we can to honor him..

Panna Riitikrai passed away on July 19th 2014. He was taken ill last November with Liver disease.  It was later found that he also had a Brain Tumour ..

Jackie Chan is now well under way with filming of his latest action Blockbuster. The films being shot in the desert and is a story of warring forces in ancient China who come across a legion of Roam Soldiers.

John Cusack and Adrien Brody star in this film telling the story of two armies from two very different continents.

After the speculation that Mel Gibson was the big A list Hollywood star to be connected with the film, we now know this to be untrue and in fact we have two A list Hollywood stars taking part, neither of which is Mel Gibson.

Benny The Jet Urquidez is on set to in the fight action department. Plsu he's also John Cusack's martial arts teacher and has been for years..

Filming in the heat of the desert is going to get harder as well as soon they move further into the Gobi desrt to film.

The film is being directed by Daniel Lee ,giving Jackie Chan a break after CZ12 and 1911.. Though we still know he's pretty much hands on any film he makes..

More as we get it..

John Cusack as Lucius

Adrien Brody as Tiberius

Director,screenwriter Park Hoon-Jung in London

Posted by THE SNAKE on April 1, 2014 at 9:10 PM Comments comments (0)

For the past two months the London Korean Cultural Centre in the Strand have been holding one of their regular Film night features ,which feature either a director, actor or screenwriter or any other filmmaker.

In a three year project which started way back in 2012 (something we did not know about at the time) they featured in 2012 the works of twelve directors ,showing their films in series and inviting said directors to visit for one of the screenings of their films.

In 2013 it was the turn of the actors, This time four actors/actresses where chosen with each having four or six films on show with the final film with said actor/actress in attendence.

Unfortunately  we where unable to make many of the screenings. and as the screenings are free with limited spaces they often get booked quite fast.

We where lucky to get to a couple featuring Choi Min-Sik and actually got to meet the man in question to ,which was great.

Choi Min -Sik in London in 2013

We attended a few screenings for rising star Ha Jung-Woo ,but where not quick enough to meet him as the spaces where taken quicker then a speeding train.

This year is the year of the film makers, whether they be Screenwriters,Directors,Producers or choreographers.  We aim to not miss as many as we did in the past , though even though the screenngs are free you still have to get to London in time to view them.

Anyway this year has started with Screenwriter turned director Park Hoon-Jung ,who wrote the screenplays for  ''I Saw the Devil'' , The Unjust, The Showdown and New World. The latter two which he also directed.

We had already seen ''I Saw the Devil'' at the Choi Min-Sik event last year ,so we attended the screenings of the latter three films.

For New World Park Hoon-Jung was in attendence in London for a Q&A after the film .

With only just publishing our review of The Showdown ,our New World review will be in a couple of Days with pictures from the event .

We look forward to seeing the next in the series providing it meets with the sites criteria, but as where quite open to what we view chances are if we can make it where be there to cover the event.
