More Judo news , This time the Women's 48kg category , I always like watching the light weights fight as there always seems to be more action . And this was the case for the final of the Women's 48kg match.

With Japan looking to win their first Gold with the hopes on Funi Tonaki but she had one obstacle in her way and that was Kosovo's Distria Kransniqi. . This was a a storm of a match as the fiery Kosovo fighter gave as good as she got and pipped Tonaki to the post in this exciting match.

Bronze medal runner ups where Ukraine's Daria Biliodid and from Mongolia Urantsetseg Munkhbat.

Hi all , with the Olympics finally under way here at Kickemintheghoulies where be looking at some of the matches in Judo ,Taekwondo , Karate , Boxing and Wrestling .

Day One saw the Judo Mens 60kg weight catagories get under way and after some tough bouts it all came down to Japan and Chinese Taipai (Taiwan)  fighting for gold.

The match was a intense one with both men showing some classic Judo in the end Japan's Noahisa Takato beat Taiwan's Yang Yun Wei to win Gold in Golden Score , due to Yang forgoing to many out of bounds moves.  .

But Yang's Silver medal was also a achievemnt as it was Taiwan's first ever  Olympic Medal in Judo , so the nation should be pleased.

Japan's Takato in Blue counters Taiwan's Yang in White.

Nintendo's E3 Fanfare and Sega Surprises

Posted by Bruno B on June 24, 2021 at 2:25 PM Comments comments ()

Hi All BrunoB here with more on E3 , Gaming ,Birthdays and everything else.

So after all the fanfare of E3 was it all worht it , staying up late in the night , catching up with all the streams and taking in all the infomation on what's coming to our little entertainment boxes that sit under our TV's .

Well the last day of E3 was Nintendo's turn to showcase and showcase they did .

Though they did cover some titles that had previously been shown and where nearing release like Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD there where a lot of other surprises in store for Nintendo fans and even though they may have not been what many where hoping it was still a good show from Nintendo.

I suppose the big reveal was a New Metroid Game for Nintendo Switch , but this was a new 2D adventure in the vain of Metroid Fushion and the direct sequel to the Gameboy Advance game . Named Metroid Dread and developed by Mecury Steam and Nintendo EPD.

The game looks very appocalyptic and has very nice lighting effects. , it may not be the mystery Metroid Prime 4 but this one will tide fans over till more news on that arrives. . And the great thing is the game releases this October 8th , so not long to go.

Other surpises where a reboot HD version of Advance Wars , which though a rather niche title from Nintendo's past will please fans of the originals as you get both Advance Wars 1 and 2 in this pack. , subtitled Re-Boot Camp the game releases again for the Christmas period on December 3rd 2021.

A new Wario Ware game was also announced , comprising a coolection of new Mini Games and Called Wario Ware Get it Together it launches this September 2021 and though many where saying is it really worth spending £50.00 on such a game , i have seen pre-orders as low as £34.99 .

Another mini game collection is Mario Party Superstars , this is another coolection of mini games from the N64 Mario Party games , remade in HD and with online play. , again at £50.00 i think this is a bit steep for a rehash of old mini games given a gloss of paint but I'm sure fans will lap it up and there will be discounts I;m sure for pre-ordering from certian sellers.

Another title and another port of a Wii U title. Yes Fatel Frame Maiden of Black Water is coming to Switch , re-jigged to take into account the lack of a seperate screen for the camera . Of note this is also coming to PS4 and Xbox One as well.

More surprises came in a new iteration of Cruis'n is coming to Switch as a exclusive. Cruis'n Blast a port of the arcade game arrives on Switch this fall.  Fans of the Cruis'n game will be pleased at this title being unleashed on Switch as we all have memories of Cruis'n USA  and Cruis'n World.

All in all Nintendo's Showcase was pretty good , they also showed some indies and of course Mario and Rabbids was also shown ,a the enwe ganter sneak peak at Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 , ( what it be called at laucnh no one knows)  it was more  cinematic then actual gameplay but was very nice looking. , it did flash up a 2022 release but this could change we all know it.

One Publisher that had loads of snipets at E3 and before was SEGA , I truly beleive they could have had a great little showcase if they had gathered all there reveals into one small showcase , It could have worked with the new Sonic Game , the second Movie, and Sonic Colours Ultimate.in one event and add in the Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown , Two Point Campus reveal and that Yakuza Like a Dragon was coming to Gamepass and the newly launched PSO New Genises.

And the fact that their Olympic Tokyo 2020 game was launching in the West  Not forgetting their PC titles like Total War and Humankind showcases.

I know Sega usually go big at the Tokyo Game show with reveals but a combined showcase for western audiences would have been nice.

One thing E3 showed me was that there are a lot of games I would like to try , luck be I do have a Xbox and can try some of them on Gamepass. But yes of course the likes of Nintendo's fare and Sony's at present are not in my reach as I don't have their current consoles at present. But being a Wii U owner i do have many of the Switch's great titles.

This is BrunoB signing of till the next one . Be Safe all

Square Enix and the Future Games show at E3

Posted by Bruno B on June 19, 2021 at 9:20 AM Comments comments ()

Back with our final coverage of E3 , it's showcases and our consclusion. this is the first of three posts covering the remainder of the show.

So after the entertaining XBOX showcase we where excited to see what Sqaure Enix had in store. .We must admit we did not catch the early part did ctach up. Man's gotta eat you know.

Square Enix showcase was a mixed bag to be honest , fans where expecting some announcmenets that did not turn up and then some of the announcmenets where not as expected.

Standout games where of course the New Guardians of the Galaxey game which unlike thier previous Marvel Avengers game is a standalone single player campaign game with squad controls. This pleased many as the previous title was microtransaction hell and a online service game .

The new Gaurdians game looks really fun and characters are well animated though your role is as Starlord and you control your team mates through a control hub by the looks of it.  But it's one where looking forward to.

Talking of online service games the anticpated game by Platinum Games for Square Enix Babylons Falls was revealed and like Marvel Avengers is a online service title which upset a lot a people and really is at odds of the type of games Platinum usually makes.

But I'm sure those interested will enjoy it.

Then the other title revealed was Strangers of Paradise a hack and slash game which is a spin of the Final Fantasy universe.

Coded by Team Ninja at Koei Tecmo this is one s that got everyone excited , it's a campaign  based or mulitplayer adventure with real time battles that Team Ninja excell at. Definitely has character and one to watch.

The only other franchise to get a good slot was the new Life is Strange game True Colours which we saw a indepth look at and has become quite a franchise considering the original launched as a episodic Indie title.

I do enjoy these type of games and enjoyed my time with the original , I will probably give this  a whirl to.

But the lack of any news of the Tomb Raider or Just Cause franchises also was noted by many.

Also their lack of any indepth look at Final Fantasy XVI which is a timed exclusive for Playstation 5 .

Overall Square Enix showcase was average at best even though it did have a couple of highlights.

Of course later that day , or night i should say well infact it was the next morning as it started at Midnight , I sat down for the Future Games show .

This was a good show as it offered up looks at all sorts of games from a host of developers and publishers  like  Xseed who are bringing the likes of Story of Seasons Friends of  Mineral Town to Xbox One / X /S and Playstaion 4/5 . formerly a Nintendo Switch game.

The Switch also got info on ShadowVerse Champions of Battle and Rune Factory 5 coming in 2022.

Another on from Xseed for Nintendo Switch and PS4 was Akibas Trip Hellbound and Debriefed coming July 2021.Rounding of with Rune Factory 4 Special for PS4 / Xbox One /Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch coming this fall.

Sega also made a appearence with a more indepth look at Sonic Colours Ultimate , this game looks magnificent and having played the Wii Original can not wait to get my hands on this new version. Also from Sega and their Two Point Studios was Two Point Campus , a sequel to the highly successful Two Point Hospital which also got a juicy upgrade a short while back.

With Campus they have changed things up a bit and you actually get to build your Campus before you get to actualy work it. It looks like a lot of fun like it's predecessor and where looking out for this one which launches across all current formats and PC.

Team 17 also showed quite a few titles coming to many formats as well , Namely King of Seas ( All Current formats)  , Hokko Life (Steam) , Honey I Joined a Cult ( Steam) , GREAK (Switch -PS5 - Xbox Series ) and Overcooked All you can Eat ( All Current Formats).

The next in the OLLI OLLI series made a appearence with Olli Olli World which looks like a vast upgrade to the last game and is coming along nicely.

In the end the Future games show was a fun showcase which offered a insight to the more smaller titles which many may have missed and sometimes these games can often outshine many titles from the big boys and their AAA titles.

this is BrunoB signing of  - up next we go all Nintendo and why didn't Sega just wait to bring all their announcments together in one showcase themselves as thier announcments the past month have been quite consistant.

Xbox at E3 hit or miss?

Posted by Bruno B on June 15, 2021 at 7:15 AM Comments comments ()

Bruno B here back with more from E3 .  So did XBOX and Bethedsa deliver or did they miss the mark. Considering before their aquisition of Bethedsa each company would host a Ninety minute conferance , here we have one combined confernace showcase at Ninety minutes or just under if where being picky.

Theres' No doub't that Bethedsa took a huge chunk of the show , they even opened up the show with the first reveal of their new game StarField which opened up the show and confirming that it was a Xbox Exclusive and coming 2022.. It looked interesting , but little is really known what the games about and how gameplay will be. We know it's set in Space and that's it..

Next up was the reveal of Rare's Sea of Thieves update with a new free expansion featuring Jack Sparrow of Pirates of the Caribbean , it looked really good i must admit. , but no news on Rare's Everwild which apparently has been rebooted in development with a new lead , the guy behind Banjo Kazooie. So don't be expecting this for a long while , or any news on it.

Then we had the reveal of Yakuza Like a Dragon coming to Gamepass , making the entire series available to play on Gamepass.

We had news on Elder Scrolls Online getting updates and a cute Smash style combat game called Party Animals which looked well crazy.

Then the big one hit , the most important game for Xbox and Halo Infinate in it's current state after the low key reception it got before Xmas last year. Even though i thought it looked ok.

With restructing at 343 and anew lead in the form of the guy behind the original Halo games it looks like it's looking truly next gen , even thopugh it's still coming to Xbox One as well.

The engine looks better and even though we did not see single player campaign gameplay they did show of the Multiplayer Gameplay to good extent and it looks lush . Really looking forward to this one.

In all thirty games where shown for Xbox and twenty seven of those are coming to Gamepass day one.

Slime Rancher 2 looked amazing and so bright and welcoming and a really cool Snowboarding game called Shredders  which is Xbox Series only , no Xone. It looked really cool and a style of game we have been misiing on Xbox .

Age of Empires got a update on PC and looks really nice for those on PC and Microsoft Flight Simulator coming to Xbox Series after it's PC launch last year looks wonderful and the new expansion Top Gun Maverick also looks like a fun diversion for it.

Then we had what was rumoured that Playground Games would unleash Forza Horizon 5 before Turn Ten got the rebooted Forza Motorsport ready for Series X./ S  . Yes it was true and launching before Christmas to and on both Xbox Series X / S - Xbox One  - PC . Set in Mexico this time round and not Japan as previously rumoured .

It does make me think that Japan might have been intially the place but due to Covid that Mexico was easier due to having teams needing to travel to these places to get locations right. . Hopefully FH6 is set in Japan as i was hping for that but I settle for Mexico as the game looks stunning and how Playground has done this in the short time i don't know.  Well looking forward to this.

But that was not all the ending of the show revelaed a new IP from Arkane studios  ( Prey / Dishounoured ) a new Single or Multiplayer Vampire Hunting game which looks pretty cool. Named REDFALL it's due to come 2022 if where lucky.

So yes we had no news on Perfect Dark after the reveal last year and no new gameplay from HellBlade 2 from Ninja Theory , but it was rumoured to be shown but was cut.

So yes Xbox had a good showcase and Halo and Forza Horizon 5 along with Redfall probably gave it the edge they needed , was it outstanding or their best , I don't think so but i think time with a combined show probably limited it somewhat.

But they are having a stream on Thursday 17th at 6PM BST , where devs will talk about upcoming projects and it's here we might see more of Perfect Dark, Everwild and HellBlade.

This is BrunoB signing of . Next up Sqaure Enix - Future Games Show and Capcom.

Ubisoft Forward did it impress?

Posted by Bruno B on June 13, 2021 at 7:40 AM Comments comments ()

Back again with more E3 coverage - So last nights Ubisoft Forward for 2021 was the big start to E3 this year and the hour long show started of with Rainbow Six Extraction , a new expansion to the series which gives the feel of being in a Aliens movie. , Some have been critical when they heard that the theme was a Alien invasion , while others have embraced it.  Time will tell how well it does .

The return of Rocksmith as Rocksmith+ on PC and Consoles looks interesting if your into learning to play the guitar, the principle is a subscription service which many games are heading of this ike it seems.

Far Cray 6 which is forthcoming looks like a involving story with a good cast , I must admit I have never played a Far Cry game , i just never thought the series appealed to me. , I viewed it as just another FPS game. But must admit I might give this a twirl.

Riders Republic shown last year has come on leaps and bounds and really is a Extreme sports version of Forza Horizon by the looks of it. , Definetly giving this a  whirl., will it deliver and give the buzz of classics like Steep Slope Sliders ,1080 , Amped or Cool Boarders , we will see.

Assassins Creed Valhalla launched last year is getting some new expansions and the game does look lush to be honest.

The yearly version of Just Dance also got announced for the three main platforms , No Wii version this year , so i reckon sales will be down as  the Wii version usually outsold the others .

The New Mario and Rabbids game Spark of Hope looks lovely , shame it was revealed a few days before by the leakers and then Nintendo spoiled it by hosting a picture on their site.

By now i was  thinking yeah OK , nothing to excite me that i had not seen last year or heard about , but then the last innings of the show their suprise showing was a new game in the Avatar series - built in the new Snowdrop Engine Ubisoft unveiled AVATAR - Frontiers of Pandora coming in 2022 , and this looked truly next gen , in a way Ubisoft saved their showcase with this one . Good game and not a bad start to E3 2021.

Later today where be watching the Microsoft stream at least , if i have time will watch the others tonight or might just catch up on those.

Back again tomorrow.

E3 2021 A Digital Showcase

Posted by Bruno B on June 12, 2021 at 9:15 AM Comments comments ()

Hi All Yes Bruno B here Kickemintheghoulies  own resident Game expert and fan.

Yes I know I have been quite of late but I have been busy behind the scenes sorting out the sites game related pages. And even with the event of the new consoles launching before Xmas I was going to do a over view of events but to be honest felt content was shallow and with so many speculative rumours abound i thought best to avoid..

Plus the scarcity of being able to obtain a PS5 or Xbox Series X even more then five months later is still impossible for many . Though stocks of the Xbox series S seem abundant in both the USA and UK , Proving that the uptake of digital only consoles is not as big as many may think.

Even Sony's PS5 Disc edition outsells it's digital counterpart even though there's a £100 difference in price.

But with the Pandemic still going on and restrictions still in place for many supplies and events are still on hold.

Plus this has caused a worldwide Microchip shortage which is effecting not just the new game consoles but phone manafactures , Audio and Video makers and much more.

This has seen a increase in used items selling and this has pushed the prices up of used items on line across various auction sites and second hand dealers in retail like CEX where prices have risen dramatically . As demand of course drives prices up.

But as i come to a end of this post we are approaching that time of year where gamers unite and after last years cancelation E3 is back in a digital form starting this weekend.

As well as that we have the Summer Gamefest which kicked of on Thursday 10th of June and we also have the Future game show incoming as well this weekend.

So remember it's time to get your game on.

For more on E3 see our next post.

New Mortal Kombat Movie Inbound

Posted by THE SNAKE on February 22, 2021 at 11:55 AM Comments comments ()

Yes Mortal Kombat is Back !

But this is no game , this is a reboot of the film franchise , this time coming from Warner Bros. With a Street Date of April 16th 2021 and listed as only in Cinema's , so no early streaming of this one folks.

Though Stateside it will stream for a limited period on HBO .

So it's not only in cinemas.

For a film that's been in development  for a few years and had most of it's principal photography done in late 2019 it's been a long wait for this one and this is of course due to the global pandemic.

But as Vacines get rolled out and the hope of life returing to normal at some point , what better way to start off then with a film about Fatalities .

Heading the cast is Hiroyuki Sanada who plays Scorpian , Joe Taslim as Sub Zero and Lewis son of Phillip Tan as Cole Young. Also appearing as Raiden is Tadanobo Asano.

(c) Warner Bros Pictures 2021

Produced by James Wan and directed by Simon McQuiod it looks set to surprise fans and hopefully live up to the hype.

For Fans in the UK due to current restrictions cinemas are not allowed to re-open till Mid May at the earliest , so it looks like we will be waiting a little longer .

But what a way to come out of Lockdown. . Your Soul is Mine.

HYPER JAPAN FESTIVAL 2020 POSTPONED

Posted by THE SNAKE on March 20, 2020 at 3:45 PM Comments comments ()

NEWS JUST IN - Crossmedia have announced that the proposed HYPERJAPAN FESTIVAL due to take place at Olympia on July 10th-12th has been postponed due to the COIVD19 outbreak.

Now seeing as Many events have been postponed ,you may think this is the norm, but many events have been reschedualed , MCM London Comic Con May was recenlty postponed till the 10th -12th July , in effect clashing with Hyper Japan Festival , Seeing as many of the exhibitors at both events are the same it seems some sort of compromise had to happen , also many on social media had aired their unhappiness about the events clashing with the new dates.

Seeing as MCM in effect does attract more visitors ( 200'000 in a weekend) ,exhibitors would of course take more money at MCM . I reckon if both events would have gone ahead , my bet would be that Hyper Japan would be the one to suffer losses in lost exhibitors and visitors.

I have attended both events for years , it will be interesting to see how close the new date which is coming shortly is to the potponed one. They might go for a August date , we should find out in the next few days.

Watch this space for the new date of Hyper Japan Festival 2020.

Also it was apparent that the Birmingham MCM comic con also clashes with other events , though i am not to sure what they are at the moment, once i find out i will post a update :)
