Heavenly Sword / PS3

Heavenly Sword is a Cinematic Adventure game comprising many game play elements , Conceived originally in 2002 for release on PC and Xbox 360 and released in 2007 on the Playstation 3 console as a exclusive title published by Sony.

The games programmers ,Ninja Theory had previously been responsible for the XBOX tilte ''Kung Fu Chaos'' , this was when they where known as Just Add Monsters . Chaos was good game which took the Martial art theme to a comic level and it worked brilliantly.

For Heavenly Sword the premise was more cinematic and it's scope gave the game a lush look ( some of the best graphics for 2007) , add to this the talent of Andy Serkis ( the voice of Gollum in the Lord of the Rings) and Anna Torv who provided the voices for the two main characters ,that of our heroine Nariko and the rival King Bohan.

The story surrounds Nariko a red haired warrior whose clan is under threat from the evil ruler King Bohan. Nariko possess a powerful sword of the gods known as the Heavenly Sword . King Bohan would like to attain the sword for his campaign in taking over the lands.

The Game starts by thrusting you into the thick of battle ,but after the initial start you end up going back five days to relive them .

Nariko has use of the sword which has three phases. Your also encounter sections where you fire projectile weapons ,such as cannons . Your also get to play as Kai who uses a Bow to dispatch enemies from afar.

Each parts of the game play out in chapters like some ongoing TV adventure series. Each one giving you a new challenge and chance to experience some lavish visuals as well as some good voice acting.

Other parts of the game play out in Quick Time Event ( QTE ,ala Shenmue) where you have to press button sequences to escape or follow foes by jumping and evading enemies.

I actually think Heavenly Sword is good game which combines elements to bring variation to break up any monotony that many games of this Ike can suffer from.

Of course many chapters see you starting over if you fail within the time limit or let to many enemies get through your lines.

On the game disc you also have two episodes of a animated series based on the game detailing the early years of Nariko and the histories of Bohan.

In it's first year the game sold Million copies . Making it a successful game for PS3 , but then I don't think it could have been hard as 2007 -08 the PS3 had very few exclusive must have titles .

Now's the stories different with most games being cross platform other then a few brands still being exclusive to each console and of course there the Sony and Microsoft published works.

Ninja Theory went on to develop ''Enslaved '' a multi platform game which many say is better on the 360.

But if your after a fun varied hack and slasher with added moments of pure joy then Heavenly Sword is a must for your PS3 . It may not have been a Console selling title ,but without it any PS3 owner is missing a important title in the PS3 range.

So what you waiting for ,with used copies available on site like eBay from as little as £8.00 ,grab your copy to day.

Score out of Ten = 7
